At 18 years and 271 days, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has become the youngest bowler to claim 100 wickets in T20 cricket surpassing the previous record by 89 days set by fellow Afghan Rashid Khan.
Mujeeb reached the landmark in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League against Rajshahi Royals at Chattogram earlier this week when he bowled wicket-keeper Liton Das, who was opening the innings, to give Cumilla Warriors the breakthrough.
It took Mujeeb Ur Rahman, a Kings XI Punjab star in VIVO Indian Premier League, 96 matches to reach the milestone.
Rashid Khan was the previous youngest to reach 100 wickets, having achieved the feat in 18 years and 360 days, although he continues to hold the record for taking the least number of matches to do so, at 66.
In the BPL so far, Mujeeb has played seven matches and picked up nine wickets at an average of 15.77 and at an enviable economy rate of just 5.25 runs per over.
Last month, Mujeeb ur Rahman jumped six positions to be established as the second-best bowler in the T20I rankings released by the International Cricket Council, trailing compatriot Rashid Khan.
