Back at his preferred batting position, Aaron Finch scored an industrious 106-ball 100 against England in the fourth One Day International at Chester-le-Street in Durham on Thursday.

Having become the fastest Australian to reach ten international hundreds earlier this year, the Aussie vice captain now has the most tons recorded against England by a player.

Although it came in a losing cause, his recent effort was his sixth ODI century against the Three Lions, surpassing the tally of Mahela Jayawardene, Ross Taylor and compatriot Ricky Ponting.

It helped that the 31-year-old opened the innings as he and Travis Head put on 101 for the opening wicket, Australia’s first 50-plus stand after six matches. It laid the foundation for the team to score 310/8, pillared by Head’s fifty and Shaun Marsh’s century, with whom Finch put on 124 for the second wicket.

England, however, comfortably chased the target with 5.2 overs to spare after which Finch became a part of another record, albeit an unwanted one.
