Chris Jordan picked in T20 squad for South Africa tour

The fast bowler retains his place in the England squad after an impressive performance in the 2020 IPL.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) earlier of November 3 announced their squad for the limited overs tour to South Africa. For Kings XI Punjab, a familiar face can be seen in that squad with fast bowler Chris Jordan being picked for the T20I squad.

The pacer, who played for Kings XI Punjab in the 2020 Dream11 Indian Premier, retains his place in England’s T20I squad, and will be spearheading their pace attack alongside Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, Tom Curran and Mark Wood. Jordan will travel to South African off the back of a successful IPL season, which saw him pick nine wickets in nine games.

Jordan was the star of the show in Kings XI Punjab’s wins over Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, bowling with great precision in the death overs on both occasions. This was the 32-year-old second best IPL season, behind just to the 2016 season when he picked up 12 wickets.

Chris Jordan is currently the second highest wicket-taker for England in T20 Internationals, just two wickets behind Stuart Broad who has 65 wickets to his name. This series against South Africa could however see Jordan usurp Broad to claim first spot as England’s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals.

The series against South Africa is set to begin in late November, with three T20Is games to be played first, followed by three One Day Internationals. The whole series is set to be played in a bio-secure bubble without any spectators on the ground, in compliance with the Covid-19 protocols. The first T20I will be played on November 27, and the England squad is expected to travel two weeks in advance to comply with quarantine rules.
