A well delivered in-swinger to Quinton de Kock which tricked him into playing a reckless shot was all it took for pacer Chris Jordan to enter the record books, as that wicket helped him usurp Stuart Broad to become England’s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals. The 32-year-old pacer bowled admirably in that final T20 International away against South Africa, ending with figures of 1/42.

After playing just 55 matches for his country, Chris Jordan has managed to pick up 66 wickets, overtaking Stuart Broad’s tally of 65 wickets and getting to that mark having played one game less than the former England limited overs captain. Jordan made his T20I debut for England back in 2014, and has since been a constant feature of the team in the shortest format of the game.

He has played for England in the previous two T20 World Cups, and has earned a reputation for being a death overs specialist for his country. Jordan averages just over 24 in T20 Internationals, and has a stellar strike rate of just over 17. The 32-year-old also holds the record for the best bowling figures in an innings by an Englishman, having picked 4/6 in a game against West Indies last season.

Jordan was also an integral part of Kings XI Punjab in the 2020 Dream11 Indian Premier League, playing nine games for the franchise and picking up nine wickets in the tournament. The astute pacer helped the franchise win a low scoring thriller against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020, when they successfully defended a target below 130 runs. Jordan seems to have carried that form into this three-match T20I series away to South Africa, picking up at least one wicket in all three games.

The fast bowler is 12th on the list for leading wicket-takers in T20 Internationals across all countries, and also sits pretty on top in the list for English cricketers, with the closest to him amongst active players being Adil Rashid with 51 wickets.
