Chris Gayle made a breeze of Edmonton Royals’ total of 165/9 in the Global T20 Canada series match at Brampton on Friday after he hammered 94 off just 44 balls to lead Vancouver Knights to a comfortable six-wicket victory.
Opening the innings, captain Gayle led from the front yet again following up on his century in the previous match to keep his team’s scoreboard ticking despite an early wicket.
Vancouver Knights lost their first man in just the fifth ball of the innings with Universe Boss ensuring that he kept the start steady at his end, scoring just seven runs off the first 11 deliveries he faced.
His next 87 runs took just 32 balls though, at a strike rate of 271.87, and that included his plunder of 32 runs off the 13th over bowled by Shadab Khan. That over saw four of his nine maximums of the day and two of his six boundaries. For his explosive effort, Gayle was unsurprisingly named Man of the Match.
Gayle, who plays for Kings XI Punjab in the VIVO Indian Premier League, has now amassed 273 runs in just four matches in this season’s Global T20 Canada at an astonishing average of 91.00 and a phenomenal strike rate of 202.22.
Although he missed what could have been his second straight ton, he is currently the leading run-scorer of the tournament, scoring 104 more than the next best and has hit the most number of sixes (22) as well.
