An outstanding spell on a flat pitch at the Melbourne Cricket Ground saw Andrew Tye call his experience to the fore to restrict Melbourne Stars and set up a victory for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League on Wednesday.

Put in to bat first, Melbourne made a comfortable start with the opening partnership bearing 65 runs before the home side were reeled back with two quick wickets.

From 65/0, the Stars fell to 69/2 when Tye sent back captain Nic Maddinson with a vicious rising delivery -- that followed a slower ball -- to the southpaw which the skipper tried to fend off, only to lob it into the hands of the wicketkeeper.

But Melbourne recovered from there as they found themselves at 121/2 in the 16th over. That soon became 121/4 when Tye also set up Dwayne Bravo with a slower ball, before sending a quick, full one that went and met the leg stump, missing the West Indian's attempt to flick it and thus recording a two-ball duck.

As the Stars tried to up the run rate, the 32-year-old Kings XI Punjab pacer then snapped Seb Gotch and Jono Merlo in the penultimate over, both caught out in the deep.

Tye ended up with figures of 4/18 in his four overs to record this BBL season's first four-wicket haul and his best figures in the league.

Melbourne Stars ended with 146/6, scoring just 25 runs in the last four overs with Tye conceding only nine runs in his last two overs and picking up three wickets. Perth Scorchers chased it down with six wickets and 14 balls to spare.

Tye, who now has the joint-highest eight wickets in the league this season, was adjudged Man of the Match.
