Batting for Uttar Pradesh, Akshdeep Nath hammered a blazing century to take his side to a mammoth total and then completed an all-round show with the ball in a scintillating fixture against Andhra in the Elite, Group B Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Delhi on Saturday.

Having batted first, Uttar Pradesh were tottering at 45/3 before they got some stability with Nath eventually walking in at 118/4, joining opener Samarth Singh who had held his end up. After that, the duo put on an unbroken 212-run partnership in just 157 balls to take the side's total to a daunting 330/4.

Samarth Singh ended with 115* (130) while in contrast the typically-aggressive Nath managed 119 not out, taking just 79 balls at a strike rate of 150.63, emblazoned with 9 fours and 5 sixes. A Kings XI Punjab pick, Nath registered his fourth List A century in 44 matches.

The duo were particularly severe to fast bowlers as they accelerated in the final 10 overs, with Bandaru Ayyappa conceding 91 runs in his 10 overs and KV Sasikanth 78 in his full quota.

When Andhra came out to bat, Nath showcased his utility with the ball as well. He picked up three straight wickets to keep the opposition, who were ticking in the runs, in check.

From 144/2, Nath dismissed anchoring opener Srikar Bharat for 39, sent back Bodapati Sumanth for a run-a-ball 43 and ended Manish Golamaru's attempt to launch a salvo for 14.

Andhra were 207/5 when Golamaru walked back. But gritty knocks towards the end meant Uttar Pradesh lost the match by a wicket with just three balls to spare.

Nath was the pick of the bowlers of the day, capturing 3/44 in eight overs, his best figures in One Day cricket.
