Mike Hesson’s role as coach of the Kings XI Punjab team has come to an end following the Kiwi’s tenure at the helm of the 2019 VIVO Indian Premier League season with the franchise earlier this year.
Hesson was appointed as head coach late in October last year and helped the Shers achieve a sixth place finish in the subsequent VIVO IPL campaign, wherein the team was in the contention for the playoffs right till the end of the league stages.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Kings XI Punjab franchise and wish to thank them for the season I had in charge," Hesson said. "Whilst disappointed not to be able to build on the work we did this year, I’m sure success isn’t too far away for them. I wish them all the best for the future."
In his tenure, the former New Zealand coach managed to acquire some talented Indian youngsters like Harpreet Brar, Arshdeep Singh and several others; and showed his trust in youth by giving adequate playing time to these youngsters.
He also managed to get the best of young international stars like Nicholas Pooran and Sam Curran, and leaves KXIP having nurtured several stars of the future. Hesson was also at the helm of affairs during the auctions for the 2019 season, where KXIP signed the likes of Mohammed Shami and Murugan Ashwin.
The Kings XI Punjab management thanks Mike Hesson for his vital contributions during his time in charge of the franchise and wishes him all the best for all his future assignments.
