Dishing out awards for on-field exploits and off-field work has become a common phenomenon and an ever-increasing practice in the world of sports. Players and teams receive adulation for trivial matters and while it can be exhaustive, everyone can agree that nothing soothes the heart like instant gratification. So, we’ve decided to contribute to the cause and launch our very own weekly award function, the Kuch Bhi Awards.

The weekly winners will be given points for their efforts and the overall leader at the end of the campaign will be declared the Kuch Bhi King (or Queen, because we believe in equality).

So here it goes…

Most Generous Team Award: Delhi Capitals

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill

Indeed, nothing is quite like generosity and nobody embodies it quite like Delhi Capitals, formerly Delhi Daredevils. With their 91 losses so far, the team magnanimously donated points to their peers in the VIVO IPL for 11 long years, earning them our prestigious Most Generous Team Award. In second place are, yours truly, Kings XI Punjab (Editor’s note: #Sadness).

For their kind efforts over 11 years, we give Delhi Capitals 11 points – for a head start - and hope that this isn’t more than what they manage over the course of the new campaign.

Best Open Door Policy: Kings XI Punjab

We at KXIP believe in an Open Door policy and allowing everyone an opportunity. Which explains why we've had eight coaches in 12 years. Does its bit for Punjab tourism as well!

Half a point for each of the coaches, we collect a total of four points.

Educational Post of the Week Award: Chennai Super Kings

Folks, science can be tough. Most of us have struggled with it at some point in our life. Simply reading and trying to grasp a concept can be a taxing prospect, but a practical demonstration is highly beneficial for better understanding and that’s what CSK’s Twitter account tried with their post featuring Sir Ravindra Jadeja.

In the video, the all-rounder can be seen muttering something inaudibly following which a sound can be heard, helping us understand the concept of how light travels faster than sound. Some would argue that their video team may have messed up, but that’s just baloney. It’s science.

For promoting science, we give them 3.14 points.

Screen Guilt Photography Award: Mumbai Indians

Winning a photography award is a major accomplishment for any individual -- especially in an age armed with noir shots on Instagram -- and it takes practice, dedication and patience to capture the perfect photograph. While it may take years to click an image that wins a prestigious photography award, serial winners Mumbai Indians have done it in their very first attempt, winning our Screen Guilt Photography Award for this beautiful image.

Captured straight out of a TV screen or a monitor for some reason, the lines caused by the LEDs right between the heads of the two players on the left are a sight to behold. Absolutely breathtaking.

We award Mumbai Indians six points, two for each trophy that they have won, including our Screen Guilt Photography Award.

Here are the standings after Week 1 of the Kuch Bhi Awards:

RANK TEAM POINTS
1 Delhi Capitals 11
2 Mumbai Indians 6
3 Kings XI Punjab 4
4 Chennai Super Kings 3.14
