Kings XI Punjab Home Ground

Just across the outskirts of the lovely Chandigarh city the Punjab Cricket Association's Stadium in Mohali is perhaps one of the best-equipped stadia in India, and also one of the youngest, beginning serious cricket in 1992. With a seating capacity of 35,000 the stadium is the home ground for the Kings XI team. Originally a swamp land, this stadium has now gone onto become one of the country's best in terms of facilities and technology. The stadium is built like a five-star hotel, and the complex encompasses residential section. The ground, one of the biggest in India, has been modelled on the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Known earlier for its fast and bouncy track (India were bowled out for 80 odd in their first game here against the West Indies), the ground has staged many a memorable campaign, none more so than the World Cup tie between Australia and West Indies in 1996. The stadium under lights is a sight to behold and the atmosphere becomes absolutely electric when a Bret Lee races towards the batsman with 150 kmph deliveries. It truly provides one hell of a setting for enthralling cricket viewing.
